2020 Honda Pilot Goes Into Stealth Mode With Black Edition

After a refresh last year, the Honda Pilot returns with a new Black Edition trim. As its name suggests, the 2020 Honda Pilot Black Edition receives a darkened appearance.

Everything is blacked-out, from the grille, headlight trim, and fog light accents to the side trim, door handles, window trim, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Black Edition badges adorn the grille and tailgate. Inside, you’ll find red lighting on the dashboard, doors, and center console, as well as red stitching on the steering wheel and door panels. The first and second row leather seats also get red accents , and Black Edition logos can be found on the front seats and floor mats.

All these upgrades come at a price. At $50,715, the Black Edition is now the most expensive model in the Pilot lineup. Since it’s based on the loaded Elite trim, it receives plenty of goodies such as heated and ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, front and rear parking sensors, and a panoramic roof.

The 2020 Honda Pilot LX starts at $32,645, up $100 from the 2019 model. Starting prices for the other trims—including the EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite—have also increased by $100. Still, the base Pilot undercuts the 2019 Toyota Highlander ($32,775), which gets a complete redesign for the 2020 model year.

Last year, Honda updated the Pilot’s exterior styling and the nine-speed automatic transmission that comes on higher trims. As we noted in our last review, the gearbox doesn’t feel much different than before and can still use some refinement. We praised the Pilot for its solid suspension, buttery V-6, and smoother stop/start system.
