Check the Battery

The battery is one of the most vital parts of your car. Without it, you’re not going anywhere. Yet, it’s a part of the car that a lot of people forget to take care of. Maybe it’s because it’s one of those things that seems just to be there doing its job quietly. We don’t think about it until something goes wrong with it.

But there are certain things you should do so that nothing goes wrong with it in the first place. It needs to be cleaned every now and then. So, lift the hood and check for corrosion at least once a month and give it a clean while you’re there. Once it’s really old though, no amount of cleaning will help it, so you might have to replace it.

Top Up Your Tyres

Your tyres are working at the coalface. They take the brunt of the damage that your car sustains. Think about all those potholes you hit when you’re driving. After a while, that kind of occurrence will take its toll on the condition and quality of your tyres, so make sure you’re checking them regularly.

A lot of people forget the importance of their tyre pressure. They need to be topped up regularly. Otherwise, you’ll effectively be driving around on flat tyres. Not only will that do damage to your car, but it’s also potentially dangerous as it makes accidents on the road much more likely.

Keep an Eye on Oils and Fluids

Oil is essential for your car. If you try to drive around with an insufficient amount of oil in your car, you’ll notice it pretty quickly. You’ll start hearing all sorts of worrying noises coming from the engine, and you really don’t want that. It’ll only be a matter of time before you break down.

You’ll need to conduct regular oil changes. It’s recommended that you do this for every 5000 miles or so that you drive in your car. Oil isn’t the only fuel you need to keep an eye on though. Coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid and windshield washer water are all important too. These should be checked each week.

Clean it Inside and Out

Some of the tips outlined above may sound a little complicated for people who aren’t massive car enthusiasts. But the basic things, like cleaning your car regularly, are just as important to get right. Nobody likes cleaning their car, but it’s something that has to be done if it’s going to be kept in the best condition possible.

If you don’t want to do the cleaning yourself, or simply don’t have the time to do it, there are companies that offer car cleaning services, so have them do the work instead. It costs more, sure. But it does take the effort and the pain out of having to clean your car inside and out once a month.

If you follow these tips, your car will be running well and looking great all year round.
