How To Prevent Your Car Being Stolen

No one wants their car to be stolen, but sadly car thefts are on the rise. For many of us, our cars are what allow us to live our lives, we use them to get to and from work, to pick the kids up from school and to get the groceries. Without our cars, most of us would struggle to lead our daily lives, which is what makes the idea of your vehicle being stolen, even more devastating.

How To Prevent Your Car Being Stolen

While you can’t watch your car every second of every day, what you can do is make it less prone to being stolen. To help you do everything that you can to keep your car from being broken into and stolen, we’ve put together a few tips for you. Take note of these, and you can make your vehicle much less prone to theft.

At night, keep it in a secure location

Often, car thieves are opportunists. This means if they see a car on the street at night, and no one is around, they may take it. They won’t have planned to steal it, but if the opportunity arises, they’ll steal it. That’s why it’s so important that you ensure your car is always parked in a secure location at night. Plus, by parking your car somewhere safe, the cost of your insurance will be lower.

A garage is the best place to leave your car overnight, but if you don’t have access to one, a secure car park is a good option. The worst place you can leave your car is on the street, so if you can, avoid doing that at all costs. If you don’t have your own parking space, perhaps you could consider renting one?

Be careful of your keys

While most thieves opt to break into cars without a key, if they find a car key, they will attempt to use it. That’s why, if you lose one of your car keys, it’s crucial that you get the locks on your car changed immediately. Get in touch with a company that offers 24 hour locksmith services and get your locks changed straight away. If you don’t, you’re putting your vehicle at risk of being stolen.

Make sure that you never leave your spare car key in your car, as if a thief spots this, they’re more likely to try and break in. The easier it is to steal a vehicle without being detected, the more likely a thief is to take the chance.

Only park in car parks with CCTV

Whenever you leave your car in a car park, be it during the day or at night, only do so in places that have CCTV cameras. This may put thieves off, as they’ll know that they have a higher chance of getting caught. Car parks with on-site security, like the types you get in shopping malls, are even safer to leave your vehicle in.

If you do have to park your car in a car park without CCTV, aim to find a space that’s in an area that’s well lit. Often, thieves opt for vehicles that are hidden away in the corners of a car park, so that they have less chance of getting spotted.

Take the advice above on board, and you can ensure that your vehicle is as safe from theft as possible. There’s no way of protecting it completely, but there are things you can do to put thieves off.
