The Cee’d GT: Kia’s First Foray Into Practical Performance Motoring In The UK
South Korean vehicle manufacturer Kia has recently announced that they are about to make their first foray into the performance car market in the United Kingdom with the new Kia Cee’d GT model.
Quarter-owned by the Hyundai Motor Company, Kia is well-known for creating cars over the past few years with some rather bizarre takes on everyday words, and whilst you might be thinking that the Kia Cee’d (i.e. “seed”) GT is some kind of late April Fool’s joke, I can tell you that this new car is anything but a joke!
It’s no secret that the company had money problems towards the tail end of the 20th century, with an appalling sales record of just 3,000 cars in 1998, but luckily the firm has managed to turn their troubles around with a refreshed model lineup (and the weird model names!).
To date, the South Korean car company has a very respectable lineup of nine different models available for purchase. The newest addition to the Cee’d family is the new Cee’d GT, which is basically a 5-door version of the Pro_Cee’d GT 3-door car.
I have to say, this is actually a pretty cool car on so many levels! Here are some of the highlights to Kia’s new performance hot hatch.
The Kia Cee’d GT comes with a number of awesome exterior features as standard, such as 18-inch alloy wheels finished in a graphite colour, chrome window surrounds, LED DRLs (daytime running lights) and rear high-mounted taillights, headlight washers, rain-sensing wipers, and heated front windscreen wipers.
Inside of this new car, you will immediately notice how Kia has obviously spent a lot of time and money to develop a sporty yet luxurious interior that is aimed at catering for all tastes.
As standard, you can expect to sit on heated Recaro part-leather, part-suede sports seats, red stitching on various components such as the gear knob, front and rear electric windows, air conditioning, cruise control and a tilt & telescopic steering wheel!
A trip computer will help you to determine just how long you’ve got before you need to fill up with petrol again, and there are reverse parking sensors to make sure you don’t bump your new pride and joy! The “GT Tech” model additionally features a parallel park assistance system and a reverse camera system.
In terms of in-car entertainment, the Kia Cee’d GT sports a 6-speaker stereo system with a 7-inch touchscreen display and built-in satellite navigation on the GT Tech model. The head unit is Bluetooth-capable, which makes it perfect for pairing with smartphones such as the Apple iPhone.
The Kia Cee’d GT is powered by a 1.6-litre 16-valve GDi (Gasoline Direct Injection) engine which boasts an impressive 201 brake horsepower and can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.4 seconds, thanks in part to the 6-speed gearbox the engine is mated to.
Be sure to check out GK Group dealership or your local Kia centre to have a look at this brilliant new model in person!
