DTM: Passed! – Wittmann ready to hit the road on two wheels too.

Marco Wittmann (DE) used the break in racing between the DTM events at the Lausitzring (DE) and the Norisring (DE) to take his A2 motorcycle test. After taking lessons on a BMW F 700 GS, the moment of truth came at the start of the week: the 2014 DTM champion mastered every section of the test flawlessly, meaning he is now free to ride the BMW Maxi-Scooter C 600 Sport he was presented with at the Lausitzring. “I have been planning to take my motorcycle test for a long time. I just hadn’t found the time until now,” said Wittmann. “When BMW Motorrad came up with the Champion Edition of the BMW Maxi-Scooter, in the design of my Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM, it gave me the push I needed to finally get it done. “I did not find it particularly hard to follow the instructions of my instructor, as we get on extremely well and I already knew the driving school. The only problem, if you can call it that, was the relatively low speed on the slalom section. I am used to a completely different pace.”

DTM: Pure joy about new blood in the Tomczyk family.

BMW Team Schnitzer’s Martin Tomczyk (DE) became a father for the second time: His wife, Christina, gave birth to little Lio James on 1st June. As is traditional, relatives and friends shared their joy by handing over a “Weisertwecken” to the parents – a huge decorated loaf of bread made of wheat flour, braided as a plat. It’s a Bavarian custom to bake it to a length of one metre for every 500 grams of the baby’s weight. So this particular “Wecken” turned out to be 7 metres and 10 centimetres long. “Obviously we were really happy about this surprise,” said Tomczyk. “My friend Florian Freilinger organised the whole thing and was the official measurer of the bread, my brother Tobias sat at the wheel of the tractor that delivered it. We are satisfied that the birth of Lio James went smoothly – and now we will enjoy every minute with him and our daughter Emily Grace.”

Blancpain Endurance Series: Martin and Luhr compete for the Marc VDS Racing Team.

When the Blancpain Endurance Series enters its third round in Le Castellet (FR) on 19th/20th June, the Marc VDS Racing team will also be in action. Markus Palttala (FI), the 2014 BMW Sports Trophy winner, will be joined at the wheel of one of the Belgian team’s BMW Z4 GT3s by BMW works drivers Maxime Martin (BE) and Lucas Luhr (DE). This line-up reunites three of the quartet that finished runner-up for BMW at the Nürburgring 24 Hours (DE). The event at the “Circuit Paul Ricard” will also see Alessandro Zanardi (IT), Timo Glock (DE) and Bruno Spengler (CA) contest their first race together in a specially modified BMW Z4 GT3, as they prepare for the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BE).
